3D PRINTER

Grade Level: K - 12

This machine begins by first designing a 3D model from a specialized modeling software. The geometric information from the digital model is then computed into instructions for tool paths (CNC). Plastic filament is loaded onto the back of the machine and is pulled in by a motor. The plastic goes through a heating element where it melts to a certain degree and finally squirts out from a nozzle to form your 3D model.

The 3D printer can be operated only by a person who has completed training with IU1 and maintains a current certificate for operation from the IU1. Only materials provided by the IU1 are permitted for use with the printers. For other materials not listed, you must contact the Fab Lab Coordinator who will verify machine safety and compatibility. Materials will then be purchased by IU1 and added to your charges.
